BIO: Gill Morrow
My studio is based in the university area of Belfast, N lreland; where clients can come to sit, I sculpt, glaze and fire onsite.
I grew up and studied in Belfast and have a degree in Genetics from QUB. After having lived and worked in New Zealand I returned to Belfast in 2014 to persue a career in sculpture.
I am self-taught and work in many different mediums. Recently my focus has been porcerlain portraiture. My subjects have been varied. These include sitters from young to old, male, female and fantasy - some drawing influence from current affairs such as woman’s rights, politics and the environment. I like to use body art to add a narrative on occasions.
This series of dogs explores different clay bodies to enhance the characteristics of different dogs. I enjoy trying to capture and express the individual personalities that every dog has; from strong and loyal to cute and playful.
In addition to my porcelain portraiture I also paint, draw and dabble in tattoos – as seen in some of my sculptures. Currently I am illustrating a children’s book about glum zoo animals. My scientific background continues to inform and influence my naturalistic anatomical style.
I have worked in set design in America.
I have exhibited in the Eimear Gallery and the Fenderesky Gallery.
Royal Ulster Academy in 2016, 2017, 2018.
Finalist in the Zurich Portrait Prize exhibiting in the National Gallery in Dublin 2018.
Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin 2019.
