BIO: Frances McKenna
A graduate in Fine Art painting from University of Ulster, Belfast, Frances McKenna is a full time artist who has had her work featured in many group & Solo exhibitions throughout Ireland. Over the years, her work has been acquired for major collections including Bass Ireland, Ulster Television, The Irish news and the Northern Ireland Civil Service.
Frances McKenna’s distinctive style of painting has earned her many awards and busaries, the most notable of which was October 2000 when she was First Prizewinner of the Bass Contemporary Art Awards.
Today Frances’s paintings are about portraying life’s beautiful energy. She would like to move her viewer, to pull them into the paintings & to feel uplifted.
Frances feels that in a world where there can be a lot of darkness, she would like to create scenes that make life a more beautiful place to experience, a happy escape from reality - a place where people can happily imagine themselves to be. She hopes to create this energy & atmosphere through her use of colour & brushstrokes.
It is Frances’s hope that the viewer of her work can get lost in her paintings with a sense of joy. To walk & lose oneself among the wild flowers in a vast open space of sunshine, to feel the wind in their face, listen to the sounds of the ocean, taste the sea salt in the air & the smells of Irish turf burning fires. To live among colour of every description. A little piece of Heaven on earth.
