BIO: Raymond Connor Kennedy
Raymond studied Fine Art at University of Ulster (UU), Belfast in the early 1980’s and, later, at Goldsmith’s College, London.
He taught at Limavady College across a range of courses for over twenty years as well as being Couse Director of the Fine Art Associate Bachelor Degree programmes run in association with UU. He has worked from his own studio in Coleraine since 2015. He exhibited in a two-man show at Flowerfield Art Centre in 2016, and in 2018 he had a solo exhibition in France with Art Pluriels in La Roche sur Yon.
His work is rooted in the local landscape near where he lives. Whilst the North Coast is famed for its spectacular sites, he tends to be drawn to the more mundane areas in the region and its hinterland. His work reflects the restlessness, movement and transience in the landscape being observed. The paintings are a culmination of many hours spent watching and drawing in situ to discern these shifts and changes. The treatment of the paint surfaces represents the trail of these observations; the marks, gestures and colours suggesting the experience of weather, light, time of day and year as well as evoking the impermanence of the visual spectacle.
