BIO: Naomi Horner
I was raised in the small hamlet of Millbay in Islandmagee. It is an isolated spot with barren landscapes which I explored as a child. I was always exposed to the elements and nature while walking the fields and shore line. was gathering knowledge and informing myself from a young age about the majesty of creation.
I graduated from the University of Ulster in 2006 with a BA Hons in Fine & Applied Arts. I exhibited my work in various shows throughout the country.
I became a Mum in 2009 and took some time out to raise my boy Jesse. He has grown me creatively in many ways and inspires me with his innocence. I think the simplicities of childhood should always weave their way through art. In this show I found it comforting to return to my roots, where my heart lies in the fluidity of paint, the building and layering of surfaces with mixed media, and the wonder of watching the image evolve. It was like climbing back on a bike after many years, being a bit wobbly at first but picking up pace. It was reassuring to know that my ability to paint is always there, even if it had laid dormant for a decade.
This exhibition celebrates all of the imagery I love to paint, bringing together a broad range of themes - nature, wildlife and childhood memories.
