BIO: Keith Ayton
Born in Derry in 1960, I graduated from the University of Ulster with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art in 1981.I have been a visual artist for more than 40 years, and my work has encompassed various forms of fine art, painting, photography and printmaking. The broad subject matter is based on the Irish landscape, climate and culture, and how I react to it.I have travelled extensively in Ireland and experienced the varied landscapes, spirituality and culture of the whole island.Having worked across both the industrial manufacturing and art sectors I have a unique experience on how objects, industrial and artistic can be created from concept to completion. The materials available have also informed and been utilised within my work. I have participated in many group exhibitions including shows at The Ormeau Baths Gallery, An Cultrlann in Belfast. I have also had several solo shows including Homecoming for Derry City of Culture, Lines in the Land at The Engine Rooms Belfast, Songs from the Rain at The Waterfront Hall Belfast and Drifting Fluidity at The Linenhall Library Belfast. My work is currently in private collections in UK, USA, Australia and Europe. I have exhibited in galleries in both Northern and Southern Ireland, as well as at the Royal Ulster Academy.
